tianmen city epon project

      This project is a municipal public security road monitoring network renovation and construction project in Tianmen City, adopting mature and stable EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) technology based on IEEE 802.3ah standard. It aims to build a dedicated, low-latency and high-reliability optical access network for urban main road surveillance, realizing 24-hour real-time video collection, transmission and remote back-end management, supporting urban traffic supervision, public security patrol and road safety management.
      The whole network adopts a classic point-to-multipoint EPON architecture, including OLT equipment, ODN optical distribution system and industrial-grade ONU terminals. The central room is equipped with 4-port OLT devices. As the core aggregation node of the entire monitoring network, the OLT undertakes centralized data aggregation, bandwidth scheduling, terminal authentication and signal forwarding for all front-end monitoring points. With flexible port expansion and stable signal scheduling capability, the 4-port OLT fully matches the distributed layout of urban main road monitoring points and meets the access and transmission requirements of mass video streams.
       All user-side terminals adopt industrial-grade 4GE ONUs. Different from ordinary civilian ONUs, industrial-grade devices feature wide temperature adaptation, lightning protection, dustproof and anti-interference performance, which can adapt to complex and changeable outdoor road environments, effectively avoiding equipment failure caused by extreme weather and environmental interference. Each 4GE ONU provides stable wired access ports for front-end cameras, ensuring stable and continuous transmission of high-definition video data.
       The project covers multiple core main roads in Tianmen City, with a total of 368 surveillance cameras deployed along the roads. All camera devices are connected to industrial 4GE ONUs, and uniformly upload monitoring video streams to the central OLT through passive optical fibers and splitters. The passive ODN network has no active electronic components, which greatly reduces later operation and maintenance costs and equipment failure rates, ensuring long-term stable operation of the road monitoring system.
In practical application, the EPON dedicated monitoring network effectively solves the problems of scattered road monitoring points and long transmission distance. It supports lossless transmission of high-definition video, ensures clear and real-time monitoring images, and provides reliable data support for urban traffic command, road hazard investigation and public security emergency disposal. In addition, the scalable EPON architecture reserves sufficient network bandwidth and terminal access space, which can adapt to subsequent monitoring equipment upgrading and road network expansion, providing solid basic network support for the construction of Tianmen smart city traffic security system.
